The codebase of CockroachDB reads a bit like a PhD in distributed systems, and our founders have played a large role in the build and architecture of this next-gen cloud database. Diving into the architecture of CockroachDB might help you understand some of the major concerns and challenges of distributed systems.

In this session, CTO and co-founder Peter Mattis of Cockroach Labs will take a technical deep dive into the architecture of our distributed database and decisions that had to be made in order to solve some previously unsolved problems. This is a great opportunity to ask questions of an early Google engineer, and Peter will speak through:

  • How to think about storage in a distributed system
  • Managing transactions across broadly disperse systems
  • RAFT, MVCC, and some core distributed algorithms

We will be giving away 5 physical copies of O’Reilly’s “CockroachDB: The Definitive Guide” during the session to those who come with the best questions. Currently only shipping to North America and Europe at this time.
