Customer-Managed Encryption Keys (CMEK)
Encrypt cluster data and managed backups with a key you own in AWS KMS, Google Cloud KMS or Azure Key Vault. Revoke the key, and the data becomes unreadable.

Every cluster's disks and managed backups are encrypted at rest by your cloud provider, with nothing to configure.
Every connection is encrypted with TLS 1.3. Hybrid post-quantum key exchange is on by default (Preview).
Control which rows each role can read or change with policy-based row-level security.
Encrypt specific sensitive columns, such as PII, with built-in SQL functions.
Give clusters access to your cloud storage and KMS through IAM roles you control, with no long-lived credentials stored in the cluster.
Mask or anonymize sensitive data beyond full data encryption.
Connect over AWS PrivateLink, Google Cloud Private Service Connect or VPC peering, or Azure Private Link, so application traffic never crosses the public internet.
Allow connections only from the IP ranges you approve, set separately for SQL clients and the DB Console.
Run nodes with private IPs only. Outbound traffic leaves through a NAT gateway with static IPs, and traffic to S3 or Google Cloud Storage stays on your provider's private network.
Deny outbound traffic by default and allow only the destinations you approve for backups, changefeeds, exports and logs.
Sign in with GitHub, Google or Microsoft, or connect your own identity provider, such as Okta or Microsoft Entra ID, over SAML or OIDC. Require SSO and limit sign-in to your email domains.
Require multi-factor authentication for every password-based Cloud Console user. SSO users get MFA from your identity provider.
Use an enterprise identity provider (like Okta) to programmatically provision and deprovision users and groups in a cloud organization, via SCIM endpoints.
Assign fine-grained roles at the organization and cluster scopes to manage users, billing and clusters in a cloud organization.
Grant privileges at the cluster, database and table level, including operations such as backup, restore and changefeeds.
Let SQL users and workloads sign in with tokens from your identity provider, or through the ccloud CLI with their Cloud Console identity.
Let SQL clients authenticate with PKI client certificates instead of passwords.
Authenticate SQL and DB Console users against LDAP, Active Directory or Entra ID, with group-to-role mapping (Preview).
Keep track of when and by whom your data is accessed for threat detection and compliance purposes, both with behavior in CockroachDB and the web console.
Send logs to your own Amazon CloudWatch or Google Cloud Logging, with redaction and filtering by channel and severity.
Cockroach Labs has worked with CIS to build CockroachDB Benchmarks as a blueprint for customers to deploy hardened CockroachDB configurations. Other examples of CIS Benchmarks include those that exist for Cisco Routers and Fortinet Firewalls.
