Introducing Pay-As-You-Go CockroachDB Cloud on AWS Marketplace

We’re thrilled to announce a new payment option for CockroachDB Cloud on AWS Marketplace: pay-as-you-go. With this new option, users can benefit from a streamlined payment process through their AWS accounts. Enterprises also gain an additional option to acquire Cockroach Cloud alongside the existing private offer already available through AWS Marketplace. 

Previously, accessing CockroachDB Cloud through the AWS Marketplace required a privately negotiated offer, a great option for customers interested in custom pricing and tailored workload sizing. Now users can also benefit from the pay-as-you-go model, a frictionless way to get started with CockroachDB Cloud. With this new listing, you can pay via AWS with no upfront commitments. Simply subscribe via AWS Marketplace and start using CockroachDB Cloud.

Our new AWS pay-as-you-go model aligns perfectly with the flexible, usage-based pricing inherent to CockroachDB Cloud. By removing barriers to entry, we're making it easier for customers to experience the benefits of CockroachDB Cloud without long-term financial commitments, paying only for what they use in AWS. You’ll be charged in AWS solely for the resources you consume, with no payment minimum. Deploy, scale, and tear down resources as needed; you’ll pay just for the hours you use them.”

CockroachDB in AWS Marketplace

CockroachDB Cloud can be deployed in either a single-cloud or multi-cloud region setup. When purchased through AWS Marketplace, the subscription, billing, and invoicing are handled by AWS, providing customers with the benefit of unified billing. Please note that the management of CockroachDB Cloud resources occurs within our product portal, and any usage incurred in CockroachDB Cloud will be billed directly through your AWS account.

CockroachDB is available on AWS Marketplace as a managed service in two forms: CockroachDB Serverless and CockroachDB Dedicated. The differences between these two options are outlined below:

1. CockroachDB Serverless: A multi-tenant CockroachDB deployment. Delivers an instant, autoscaling database. Multi-region Serverless clusters have support for AWS PrivateLink in limited access. This deployment option is good for starter projects and evaluations as users get up to 10GiB of storage and 50M RUs for free per organization per month.

2. CockroachDB Dedicated: A single tenant CockroachDB deployment. Supports AWS PrivateLink. This deployment option is good for mission-critical databases and projects that require Enterprise features with added security and compliance options.

CockroachDB is also available as a self-hosted deployment option through AWS Marketplace. This option is accessible only via a negotiated private offering.

1. Enhanced Flexibility and Usage: Customers can now subscribe to CockroachDB Cloud services without committing to an annual contract. There are no upfront costs or required minimum payment. The pay-as-you-go model allows users to pay only for what they use and apply AWS credits more easily, making it ideal for organizations seeking flexibility in their cloud expenses.

2. Simplified Sign-Up Process: The new model eliminates the need to select a CockroachDB Cloud deployment option upfront anymore. You can try different options and see what works for you.  

3. Seamless Billing Integration: Users will now have the option to link their CockroachDB Cloud organization directly to their AWS billing account, allowing payments to be consolidated through their existing AWS account. This integration aligns with common marketplace practices and enhances convenience for customers.
