Protobuf Changefeeds: Native, Typed CDC without the Glue Code

Change data capture (CDC) is the backbone of modern data platforms: Event-driven microservices, real-time analytics, incremental ELT, and operational alerts all depend on a reliable stream of change events. CockroachDB has long supported CDC with native changefeeds and familiar output formats like JSON and Avro. Now we’re adding Protocol Buffers (Protobuf) as a first‑class serialization option. If your organization standardizes on Protobuf for Kafka and downstream services, you’ll be able to plug CockroachDB in without glue code or format converters.

Enriched Changefeeds: Debezium Simplicity, CockroachDB Resilience

Change data capture (CDC) is one of those data infrastructure patterns that quietly supports everything else. Event-driven microservices, real-time analytics, incremental ELT pipelines, operational alerting — they all depend on the same thing: a reliable stream of changes coming out of your transactional database.

MOLT Verify: Ensuring Data Integrity in Database Migrations

Database migrations are complex, and ensuring the migrated data is 100% correct is critical. After all, a migration isn’t over until you feel confident and comfortable cutting over to the new infrastructure. To streamline migrations, Cockroach Labs created the MOLT (Migrate Off Legacy Technology) toolkit, which includes three tools that improve different parts of the user journey.

Accelerate Data Migrations with MOLT Schema Conversion Tool

Database migration is a critical yet often daunting task for many enterprises that operate on legacy systems like Oracle, MySQL, or SQL Server. As these organizations strive to modernize their infrastructure and scale operations, transitioning to a distributed SQL database like CockroachDB presents a compelling opportunity – offering the consistency and familiar SQL structure of traditional databases while delivering the scalability, resilience, and performance first pioneered in NoSQL databases.
