When we rebuilt Shopmonkey’s auto shop management software from the ground up, providing fast and highly available access to our software from thousands of physical shop locations throughout North America was our number one priority. CockroachDB’s multi-region capabilities, which provide fast access from geo-distributed locations, was at the foundation of this initiative. Migrating data from MongoDB to our new CockroachDB cluster was only one part of this journey. We also had to rearchitect our monolithic application to take advantage of these new capabilities. This talk discusses the compelling reasons why we moved our core business to CockroachDB and the architectural innovations that we implemented to take advantage of CockroachDB’s unique multi-region capabilities
